website hosting, e-mail hosting, and domain hosting are three distinct services, separate but interrelated, that work together to enable a fully functional digital presence (online web presence). You typically need all three of these services to create a functioning website with a custom domain, and e-mail addresses associated with that domain.
Here are the differences between these types of hosting:
Website Hosting
Website hosting refers to storing and making your website content accessible to users on the internet. It involves managing the files, databases, web pages, images, videos, software and other digital assets of a website, on a secure server connected to the internet.
Website hosting providers ensure that your website is available on the internet, and provide technical support.
WeaverWorx offers affordable shared website hosting for those clients whose websites we have designed only; this service is not offered to the general public. We provide reseller hosting space to our clients on a Linux-based cloud server which supports WordPress and is accessible via cPanel for managing purposes.
Note: Hosting with WeaverWorx is not compulsory for websites designed by us. Clients have the choice to host their websites with the website hosting provider of their choice, as long as their hosting provider’s server meets the criteria required for successfully hosting the specific website design. Your Weaverworx website designer will provide you with a list of criteria for the information of your website hosting provider.
E-mail Hosting
E-mail hosting is a service that allows you to manage and store your e-mail accounts and messages on an e-mail server. You can use e-mail hosting services to send, receive, and manage e-mails, whether for personal use or your business. With reference to your website, it involves creating and managing e-mail accounts associated with your website domain; in this instance the focus is on managing e-mail services for a specific domain, allowing users to send, receive, and store e-mails associated with that domain.
E-mail hosting providers offer features such as message storage, anti-spam filtering, webmail access, and e-mail client configuration.
WeaverWorx offers e-mail hosting services but …
- only for those clients whose websites we have designed and which are hosted by WeaverWorx on our server, and
- only for domain e-mails, i.e. those e-mails associated with the relevant website designed by WeaverWorx. This service is not offered for any other e-mail accounts of our clients, or the general public.
Note: Hosting domain e-mails with Weaverworx is not compulsory in the instances where the website itself is hosted with WeaverWorx. Clients have the choice to host their e-mails with the e-mail hosting provider of their choice, as long as the website and e-mail hosting services are compatible. Discuss this option with your WeaverWorx website designer.
Domain Hosting
Domain hosting, also known as domain registration or domain management, is the service that allows you to reserve and manage a specific website domain name.
A domain hosting provider, also commonly known as a domain registrar, helps you register, renew, and manage your domain name, including configuring the DNS (Domain Name System) which involves pointing the domain to the appropriate server or hosting provider where your website and e-mail services are hosted.
When you register a domain name through a domain registrar, you are essentially leasing the right to use that domain name for a specified period, typically a year, and you can renew your ownership as long as you continue to pay the registration fees.
Domain registrars serve as intermediaries between the individuals or entities who want to own a specific domain and the domain name registry, i.e. the central database of all domain names and their corresponding IP addresses.
WeaverWorx is not a domain registrar, which means that we do not offer domain hosting services.
However, in those instances where our client has not yet registered a website domain name, your WeaverWorx designer can act as an intermediary between you and a domain registrar to register the domain name on your behalf. The domain registrar will then point the domain to the appropriate server or hosting provider where your website and e-mail services are hosted.
In those instances where our client already has a previously registered domain, we will assist you with the DNS pointing of the domain name to the new website on your website hosting provider’s server.
Note: This service of acting as an intermediary is free of charge and only offered to clients for whom we are designing websites.
